How door glass replacement works

The new glass is bolted or clipped to the regulator, aligned so it seals against the weatherstrip, and run up and down.

Common questions

Can a shattered side window be repaired instead of replaced?

No. Door glass is almost always tempered glass, which breaks into small cubes all at once. Once it has shattered or cracked, the whole pane is replaced.

Is it safe to drive with a smashed side window?

Short trips are usually fine once loose glass is cleared from the seat and your view is unobstructed, but the car can't be locked, rain gets into the door and electronics, and glass left in the door can jam the regulator. Cover the opening and get it replaced soon.

How long does a door glass replacement take?
