Features built into the glass
- Forward camera bracket and the calibration that follows.
- Rain and light sensor gel pad and mount.
- Heated wiper park area or fully heated windshield.

Glass source
OEM glass carries the carmaker's logo and costs more. OE-equivalent (OEE) glass is made to the same shape and safety standards by other manufacturers and is common in insurance work.
Labor and parts
New moldings or clips (some are one-time-use), rust repair on the pinch weld, and hard-to-reach cowl panels add time. Mobile service is often included locally.
How insurance changes the math
With comprehensive coverage, you pay your deductible and the insurer pays the rest. California has no rule waiving glass deductibles, so on an older car without a camera, the glass may cost less than your deductible. On a newer car with calibration, a claim often makes sense. Why is my windshield quote so much higher than the averages?
Usually features in the glass: a forward camera that needs calibration, a heated wiper area, rain sensor, acoustic interlayer, head-up display, or a carmaker that recommends OEM glass. Teslas and luxury models are at the high end.
Is OEM glass worth paying extra for?
On cars where the carmaker recommends OEM glass for camera accuracy, or with head-up displays, often yes. On many other vehicles, quality OE-equivalent glass built to the same specification is a sound, cheaper choice. Ask what your quote uses.
Does mobile service cost more?
Many providers include mobile service in the price for the local area; some add a trip fee for longer distances. Ask when you get the quote.
