Is ceramic tint worth it over carbon?

If heat is the main reason you're tinting, usually yes, especially on the front windows where California keeps the shade light. Ceramic rejects more infrared at the same darkness. If you mostly want privacy on the rear windows, carbon is a good value.

Does ceramic tint have to be dark to work?

No. Heat rejection comes from the ceramic particles blocking infrared, not from darkness. Light and even near-clear ceramic films reject a meaningful share of solar heat, which is why they're popular for legal front windows.

Will ceramic tint block my phone or FasTrak signal?

No. Ceramic film has no metal content, so it doesn't interfere with cell, GPS, radio or toll transponders. Metallic films are the ones that can.
